What is Shipt?
Shipt is a shopping and delivery service launched in 2014 at Magic City, Birmingham, AL. The company is owned by Target and covers more than 260 cities nationwide. It is a subscription service that can be accessed via the official app or website. Shipt’s main goal is to offer convenience and simplify lives through the services they offer. But for its “shoppers”, this service is also a way to make extra income during their free time.
To access the service, you need to become a Shipt subscriber, which costs $99 per year or $14 per month. Members will choose items from the “aisles” listed on the app or on the website. Shipt coordinates with local stores from the cities it covers, so the list of items is what the inventory has for the day. After selecting the items, members will assign the list to a “shopper”, which is an individual contractor that does all the shopping required.
During the shopping, the shopper and the subscriber can communicate for item adjustments. This is because the inventory is always changing and the items listed online might not reflect the store’s inventory in real-time. After the shopper successfully bought all the listed items, he or she will deliver the groceries to the client’s address.

How Do Shoppers Get Paid?
In Shipt, each shopper is paid hourly based on how long it takes to finish an order. Orders that are finished within an hour or so is usually billed at $22. But that number includes tip projections (which are optional for Shipt customers.)
The fund is sent via direct deposit every Friday. For example, if you worked from September 2 to September 8, 2019, expect your fund by September 15. You don’t have to work every day from Monday to Sunday, you’ll still receive the fund based on the orders you accepted every Friday as long as you accepted orders.
How To Become a Shipt Shopper?
1. Go to Shipt’s application page
The application is open to everyone who passes the requirement. Shipt might or might not be offering positions.
2. Fill up the application form
The application form will only take a few minutes to answer. Applicants will be required to answer an online form. You will need to input personal information such as name, email address, phone number, driving experience, shirt size, and referral code (if you’re referred by a Shipt member). Shipt will also want to know the kind of car that you drive and that you’ve been driving for at least a year before your application.
3. Pass the Shipt Shopper Interview
After sending the application form, you can now take the Shipt interview. You can take this interview at your own convenience. But before starting, you need to set up your camera and mic as most of the questions require a video response. An essay-type exam is also in this interview, so make sure to allocate enough time when you finally decided to take this interview.

4. Wait for your application result
You will receive an email informing you if you are qualified to become a Shipt Shopper or not. Depending on the number of Shipt shoppers in your area, your application might be considered immediately or be put on hold. Shipt hires on an “as-needed” basis, they won’t add more workers unless there are more jobs available. If you’re not accepted immediately, don’t be discouraged, as they will put your submission on the priority list and review it again if they need more shoppers.
5. Learn the Shipt orientation (if you’re accepted)
Once you passed the interview and your application has been accepted, one of the things you need to do is to sign the Shipt Shopper agreement and appropriate forms for your taxes. Shipt will require you to have your own auto insurance before you can start taking orders.
The next step is to finish the 45-minute Shipt orientation where you will be taught how to claim Shipt orders, how to use the app, Shipt policies, and store rules. You will receive documentation papers, a green T-shirt and a VISA card from Shipt. These items will be sent via mail after a few days.
6. Start accepting orders and earning money
Make sure that you update your time availability via the Shipt app before taking orders. You’re now set to accept your first order. It’s important to only accept orders that you can deliver and stick in the schedule that you provided. Scan the UPC code via the app to make sure that you’re getting the right product from the list. Shipt shoppers use the prepaid card which is provided by the company in order to pay for the groceries on the counter.

- With a vehicle manufactured from 1997 or newer
- At least one year of driving experience (with valid license and auto insurance)

Potential Earnings For Shipt Shoppers
Expert Shipt shoppers earn from $16 to $22 an hour, which is not quite bad. You should expect earnings closer to the lower end near $16 starting out. But the more efficient you are in shopping, the easier it is to make money using this platform.
You don’t have a minimum or maximum orders per day or per week, as long as you can deliver the orders, there should be no problem in accepting more. However, this job is ideal for people who have their own cars and doesn’t mind doing the same thing every day.
