Nice to Meet Ya Sugar! – My Story
My parents and I immigrated to the United States when I was 9. My parents were factory workers. We were the first family to leave our fishing village and come to America. I improved my English by listening to Radio Disney from a boom box picked off the street.
We were always one incident away from being homeless. Only existing on the razor’s edge.
Naturally, I grew up with a very negative relationship with money. That was life.
I was not born to a good family or in a good place. Looking back at my mistakes, I find my life’s truths by examining the hardship of my youth. I firmly believe we women are even stronger than we think.

In 2012, I graduated from university (the first one in my family!) with 5-figures worth of student debt. It seemed like an impossible number for me at the time.
Graduating into the Big Recession without a job was a hopeless feeling I then internalized: Loser = Me.

After a while, people tend to get sick of feeling bad this way 🙂 yeah?
That’s when I started to HUSTLE hard, online, and offline. I started being proactive and practical. Every extra dollar I earned was a win.
I took about a bazillion surveys online, eBay, Amazon, modeling, SBing, mTurk, Fiverr, etc. all for the sake of supplementing my crappy millennial day job. But it worked. In less than a year, it helped me pay off the student loans on my back.
Every single penny I earned HELPED me get out of debt a minute, day, a week quicker.

How does your story end?
Short story: now I’m a new mother, happily married to my wonderful husband. We’re financially independent, self-made. We were able to retire in our 30s. I spend my days doing whatever I want. I run my 3 hobby businesses on the side (for-profit & non-profits.)
We are saving money, building wealth, starting a family, and most importantly – we are living.
